Genealogists to
Speak
What: Joan Knight and Louise
Latsha, members of the Lycoming County Genealogy Society will
present the program Resources for Family History Research and
How to Use Them for the Lycoming County Historical Society’s
history coffee hour.
When: Thur., March 11 at 10 a.m.
Where: Community Room at the
Thomas T. Taber Museum, 858 West Fourth St., Williamsport.
Village of Exchange
What: Mary Brouse, author of
Exchange: A Look Back at the People, Places, and Events,
will discuss the history of the small Montour County village at
the next Muncy Historical Society meeting. Brouse, a resident of
Exchange, dedicated the book to her brother-in-law, the late
John Dennan, a former Muncy High School math teacher and
professor of business administration at Bucknell and Bloomsburg
universities. Founded in 1840, Exchange was once a bustling town
where stagecoach drivers exchanged their tired horses for fresh
ones. In its heyday, it had a distillery, a tannery, blacksmith
shops, churches, schools and a bank. Brouse will share some of
the stories from the colorful past. Following the program, light
refreshments will be served in the society’s colonial kitchen.

What: The Williamsport Herb Guild

History of the Grange

Photography Collection
What:
The Gallery at Penn College will host "Garden
Views and Terraria Gigantica," a collection of photographs by
Dana Fritz.
Garden Views examines formal gardening
traditions in the Eastern and Western hemispheres.
Black-and-white photographs reveal the structure of gardens and
highlight the similarities and contrasts between the world's
cultivated and constructed landscapes. Terraria Gigantica
developed out of the Garden Views series and examines the
world's largest indoor landscape complexes. All exhibits are
free and open to the public.
When: Through March 28. Gallery
hours are Saturday and Sunday, 1 to 4 p.m.; Tuesday and
Thursday, 2 to 8 p.m.; and Wednesday and Friday, 11 a.m. to 5
p.m. The gallery will be closed March 6-14.

Book Review Luncheon
What: Friends of the JV Brown
Library will host a Book Review Luncheon featuring project at
Lycoming College, reviewing the book The Curse of Caste or The
Slave Bride written by Julia C. Collins, who in 1864 was the
only teacher to the African American children of Williamsport.
This program will be as interesting for its author as it will
be for the book itself. Reservations - To reserve a light lunch
for $5.00 call the library information desk at 326-0536. no
later than 3:00 PM Wednesday, March 31. Your own bag lunch or
take outs are welcome. All may attend just the review.
