The Klump Academic Center Auditorium on the Main Campus of Penn
The Lycoming Audubon Society will present a program
entitled "Monitoring Snowy Owls, Nomads of the Arctic". Dr.
Jean-Francois Therrien will review his recent research regarding
the movement and reproduction of Snowy Owls from the high
Arctic. Using a slide show, he will show fieldwork situations
and how he managed to monitor these highly mobile and
unpredictable predatory birds throughout consecutive years, in
this remote and hostile environment. Dr. Therrien joined the
Hawk Mountain Sanctuary as Senior Research Biologist in
September 2011, and is now working on various aspects of raptor
conservation science. This involves satellite tracking of
Peregrine Falcons, Turkey Vultures and Snowy Owls, monitoring
American kestrel breeding populations and monitoring North
American migratory raptors passing over the Sanctuary.
